Witchblood: The Ux-Blood Trilogy, Book II
Once a Warden, Always a Warden…
Miles knows he is not human. But his memories are chained deep in his mind and trying to draw them out causes him pain. What he is, where he’s from, and who put the strange metallic gauntlets around his wrists remain troubling mysteries as he walks a blighted Earth. He stays alive by working odd jobs and always moving on.
Working as a mule pulling wagons in a convoy through forests infested with deadly, man-eating tree spiders, Miles finds comfort in the arms and closeness of friends for the first time in a long while. But that cocoon is shattered in a devastating attack by tree spiders, which reveals a level of intelligence never seen before. During the ambush which leaves the entire convoy in ruins, Miles experiences two amazing revelations: the metal of the gauntlets on his arms respond to his thoughts, and he can fly. Reeling from his grief at being the convoy’s lone survivor, he flies into the night. And in his exhaustion he stumbles upon the presence of other beings not of Earth.
What follows is a deadly struggle for dominance between two opposing forces who have come to Earth to claim it as their own. On one side stands a small group of Oladi witches presumably from the Witches Guild, who have re-established a portal to Earth to bring about the complete destruction of the tree spiders that have infested every forest on Earth and stunted humanity’s recovery from the Qrill invasion eight-five years earlier. On the other a Rau businessman named Stite Caultooth and his army of workers and weavers, who comes with promises to clean up the tree spider infestation and bring the ruined Earth into a community of worlds known as the Nassara to aid in its recovery.
Caught in between, unsure who to trust, the chains holding his memories back beginning to come apart, Miles finds foes where he expects friends, friends among those he considers foes, and threats to his life at every turn. With time running out, he must risk everything to re-discover who he is and what he stands for. For nothing less than all life on Earth is at stake…
Witchblood: The Ux-Blood Trilogy, Book II continues Maels Raptori’s struggle for survival on a world devastated by alien invasion and threatened by combatants from a war-ravaged overweb who will let nothing stand in their way—especially a lone, amnesia-stricken Warden from one of the first victims of the war engulfing the overweb’s strands, the League of Cells.
